initial course
This class prepares students for work in the Asbestos Abatement industry. In-depth lecture material will include Asbestos origin and history, health effects and exposure, legal, insurance, pre-work activities and considerations, worker safety, and key terminology. The hands-on segment includes preparation of the work area, decontamination, negative pressure containment, airborne fibers, glove-bagging techniques, scaffolding and ladder safety. Students receive respirator, hard hat, safety glasses and an abatement knife. Certificate of Completion is forwarded to State of Michigan for licensing. There is an additional fee of $75 ($50 for the application and $25 for processing) if you would like to us to submit the application on your behalf. This additional fee covers the state application fee and we will automatically submit your application/all required documents for your license, which will be mailed directly to the address your provided on the application (you filled out during the class), upon successful completion of the course.
refresher course
All licensed Asbestos Abatement Contractors/Supervisors are required to take an 8 hour refresher every year to maintain their license. DTC has the highest quality instruction with the most hands-on application. All students should bring their (clean) respirator. The course focuses on new regulatory updates and opportunities in Asbestos Abatement, as well as estimating and time management. State of Michigan online renewal application can be found on the state website (paper copy here).
