Falls are among the most common causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths. Employers are advised to set up the workplace to prevent employees from falling off of overhead platforms, elevated work stations, or into holes in the floor and walls. OSHA requires that fall protection be provided at elevations of four feet in general industry workplaces, five feet in shipyards, six feet in the construction industry, and eight feet in longshoring operations. Additionally, OSHA requires that fall protection be provided when working over dangerous equipment and machinery, regardless of the fall distance. Detroit Training Center provides this course to instruct in the nuances of working at height or around open fall hazards. It includes instruction on use of guard rail technology as well as harness and tie point systems. Each student will put on a harness to ensure proper fit and knowledge of proper use. This course might be necessary for contractors with new employees who are working around active fall hazards, whether inside or outside of the building.
